Ozplore ("we", "us", "our") is a digital stamp-passport app for Australian road trips. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and your rights. Questions: ozplore@gmail.com.
Account information. When you sign in, we collect your email address (used to send you a one-time sign-in code) and a display name you choose. Your display name is shown publicly — for example on the leaderboard and, if you choose, as credit next to places you suggest.
Location information. With your permission, we access your device's location to: - confirm you're at a stop when you check in ("stamp — I'm here now"); - show how far stops are from you and power the "near me" feature.
We only access location while the app is open (foreground). We do not track your location in the background. When you check in at a stop using GPS, we store the coordinates of that check-in to verify the stamp.
Activity information. We record which stops you collect, whether you checked in by GPS or claimed a place you'd previously visited, the time of collection, and the points earned. This is your passport and progress.
Content you provide. If you suggest a place, we collect what you enter (name, town, category, a map link, coordinates, and any note) and your preference about whether to be credited publicly. We also record places you star or save.
Device preferences. Some settings (like light/dark theme) are stored only on your device, not on our servers.
Usage information. To understand how the app is used and to improve it, we collect basic usage events - for example, which screens are viewed, whether a search returns results, and when a stamp is collected. These events are tied to a random identifier generated on your device, not to your account, email, or any other personal information. We cannot use this data to identify you.
To provide the core service: letting you collect stamps, verify visits, track progress and rank, appear on leaderboards, contribute suggestions, and receive credit if you choose, and to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. We rely on your consent (which you can withdraw) and our legitimate interest in operating the app.
We use trusted third parties to run Ozplore. They process data on our behalf: - Supabase — stores your account, activity and content data, and provides authentication. - Resend — sends your one-time sign-in code emails. - Google Maps — when you tap "Directions", we open Google Maps with the stop's coordinates. Your use of Google Maps is subject to Google's privacy policy. - Expo — the framework we use to build and deliver the app. - Apple App Store / Google Play — distribute the app.
We do not otherwise share your personal information, except where required by law.
Your display name is visible to other users (leaderboard, and as suggestion credit if you opt in). If you suggest a place and choose to be credited, your display name may appear publicly next to that place. You can choose not to be credited when you submit a suggestion. Please don't use a display name that reveals information you'd rather keep private.
We keep your information while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except anything we must keep for legal reasons. Approved community suggestions may remain in the app as places, but can be disassociated from your identity on request.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these, contact ozplore@gmail.com. Australian users are protected under the Privacy Act 1988; you can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
You control location access through your device settings, and can turn it off at any time. Without location, you can still browse stops and claim places you've visited, but GPS check-in and "near me" won't work.
Ozplore is designed for a general audience and often used on family road trips. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age required by law in your region (for example, under 13 in some jurisdictions) without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
We use industry-standard measures (including encrypted connections and access controls via Supabase) to protect your information. No method is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe.
Your data may be processed on servers located outside Australia (for example, by our service providers). We take steps to ensure it remains protected.
We may update this policy. We'll change the "last updated" date and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
